Hornet Wrestling Teams Fall To Towanda

The Wellsboro Boys and Girls Wrestling teams both dropped matches to Towanda on Monday.

The match took place on the 70th anniversary of the Black Knights' program, which was also against the Hornets.

The Towanda boys defeated the Hornets 54-8 while the Lady Knights defeated the Lady Hornets 54-18 for in their first-ever dual match.

In the boys match the Black Knights took nine bouts, winning 107, 127, 133, 139, 145, 152, 160, 172 and 285. There were double forfeits at 114 and 121. Towanda won seven matches by fall and two by forfeit.

Wellsboro took the 189 and 215 lb. matches. Sophomore Gavin Carson won a 5-3 decision at 189 lbs. over Dillan Sbragia and senior Hayden Stevens scored a 19-3 tech fall in four minutes at 215 lbs. over Finn Brennan.

In the girls match sophomores Isla Twoey and Katie Whitney, and freshman Phoebe Bowen picked up wins for the Lady Hornets. Twoey pinned Kaylee Johnson in 47 seconds at 100 lbs. and Bowed picked up a 38 second pin at 190 lbs. over Sophia Smallwood. Whitney defeated Ily Benjamin in 5:09 at 136 lbs.

The boys team (0-8, 0-2 NTL) is back in action Thursday against North Penn-Liberty. The girls team (0-1) returns to action at the Matness at the MACC on January 3, 2026 at Liberty Arena in Williamsport.
