The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team dropped a non-league match on the road at Muncy on Monday, January 20.
The Indians jumped out to a quick 30-0 lead as the Hornets forfeited the opening five matches. Wellsboro then got on the scoreboard with back-to-back wins as junior Mason Nowak and freshman Reed Richardson picked up wins. Nowak won a 4-0 decision at 139 against Kaleb Calisti while Richardson won via forfeit at 145 to cut the lead down to 30-9.
Muncy scored a pin fall at 152 to increase their lead to 36-9 before the Hornets' won the next three matches via forfeit. Seniors Silas Mickey (160), Evan Ingerick (172) and Ryder Bowen (189) picked up the forfeits to pull within 9 points at 36-27.
Muncy secured the match as Oklahoma State commit Austin Johnson scored a 30 second pin at 215, pushing the Indians' lead back up to 42-27 with one bout left to go.
Junior Hayden Stevens won the final bout by forfeit.
The loss drops the Hornets to 5-14 (0-6 NTL) on the season. The team is at Sugar Valley Rural Charter next Thursday.
