Hornet Grapplers Drop Season-Opener To Canton

Wellsboro dropped their season-opening match on the wrestling mats to Canton on Thursday, December 12. The Hornets fell 47-26.

Canton took 8 of the evening's 13 matches, winning 4 via forfeit.

After the Warriors took the opening four matches, junior Mason Nowak scored a 12-7 decision to put the Hornets on the scoreboard (23-3). Freshman Gavin Carson won via forfeit at 160, senior Ryder Bowen won a 21-5 technical fall (in 3:59) over Leland Pepper at 189, junior Jayden Dumm earned a forfeit at 215, and junior Hayden Stevens pinned Levi Landau in 49 seconds at 285.

The Hornets (0-1, 0-1 NTL) are back in action Saturday at the Spartan Duals in Hughesville.
