Hornets pick up first win of the year on the mat

The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team picked up their first win of the season by topping Williamson 36-24 in NTL action on Thursday, January 5.

The match started with Williamson's Travis Presto pinning freshman Connor Ramsey at 138 lbs., but the Hornets quickly ran off three straight wins. Freshman Aidan Hauser pinned Leonard Austin at 145 lbs., senior Caleb Sinkler picked up a forfeit at 152 lbs., and sophomore Jared Moreno pinned Brendan Hungerford at 160 lbs.

After two double forfeits at 170 and 185 lbs., sophomore Hunter Brown scored a forfeit at 195 lbs., senior Kaleb Smith pinned Dylan Troncone at 220 lbs., and sophomore Robert Brown scored the Hornets' final win at 285 lbs. by forfeit.

Williamson took matches at 106, 126, and 132.

Wellsboro also won the Middle School match 54-24 to improve to 2-3.

The win improves the Hornets' record to 1-4 (1-3 NTL). The team will be back in action tonight as they host Lewisburg in non-league action.
